Less Is More Haori - Unisex Jacket
This is a one off piece, a lightweight, ever so soft cotton Haori. The haori (羽織) is a traditional Japanese clothing item that is hip or thigh-length jacket and can be worn alone or with a kimono. A Haori resembles a shortened kimono with no overlapping front panels (okumi), the haori typically features a thinner collar than that of a kimono, and is sewn with the addition of two thin, triangular panels at either side seam.
This Haori is over 80 years old and was sourced in Kyoto, and we have added on a back hand screen printed panel, as well as a front tie made from vintage Japanese kimono fabric, as well as hand indigo dyed embroidered stitching along the front paneling wrapping around the neck.
The sleeves go mid forearm, but here you can see we have chosen to roll them twice for a shorter look. Noa, who is wearing this piece is 6ft3inches, so rather tall, and yet it also looks wonderful on shorter women. It’s a versatile unisex piece.
Given the delicate nature of it due to its age, it can only be dry cleaned, and can be spot cleaned but not placed fully in water or in a clothes dryer. There are slight colour fades on the Haori, that we have not covered up as we feel they add to the unique look and nod to its age. This is not a ‘perfect’ piece of clothing. It has not been made in a factory, and as hand worked as such will be imperfect, and has a Wabi-Sabi feel to it that is the whole purpose of the piece - a celebration of the imperfections, and an appreciation for the story it holds.
One Off Piece Only, therefore one of a kind.
